The Vegas Golden Knights have named Mark Stone the team's first captain in franchise history.

Stone had been an alternate captain since he was acquired in a 2019 trade with the Ottawa Senators.

"This is an organization I've always wanted to be a part of so to be able to become the first captain of this franchise, it's very honoring, very humbling," Stone said. "We have so much leadership in this group. We have guys who have been here since Day One creating a culture. I think I’ve helped add to that culture and a lot of the guys who have come later on have helped add to the culture:."

The Golden Knights did not have a captain for their first three seasons.

Alex Pietrangelo and Reilly Smith were named alternate captains for the 2021 season.
